Maximize Your Sewing Space with Ikea!
Hello Fashion and Creative Lovers!
Thank you for joining me on my continued sewing room journey. As I mentioned in my first sewing room tour blog, my son moved out on his own about a year and half ago and I just threw all my sewing equipment, supplies and everything else in my new sewing room without any layout or organizational plan.
When I finally decided to get my sewing room in order, I turned to IKEA for help with my process.
First let's talk about the IKEA LAGKAPTEN Tabletop which was perfect for my Brillance 75Q sewing machine and Huskylock S25 serger, both from Husqvana. I chose the Lagkapten tabletop size of 78 ¾” X 23 ⅝”. This table fits both of my sewing machines, provides adequate space and comfort as I sew my projects. I also chose to use 5 of the OLOV adjustable table legs to support the tabletop and to give the option to change the height of the table if needed in the future. I’m 5’ 9'' tall and I set the table height to 30'' above the floor which is comfortable for me.

GERSBY BOOKCASE
To organize my sewing notions, patterns, fabrics, jewelry making supplies and books, I used several IKEA bookcases. I had already purchased 5 of the Gersby Bookcases before my son moved out. Most of the shelf space is used for my fabrics.
LENNART DRAWERS
I have 2 of the Lennart 3 Drawer Units. One is used for serger threads and the other is used for sewing notions for the Juki DDL-8700 industrial sewing machine. Each unit has three drawers and can easily fit under any table or desk.
RASKOG CART
The Raskog Utility Cart is where I store my interfacings, muslin fabrics and projects that I am currently working on and will complete some day in the future, when I effortlessly get back to them… “some day”.
VESKEN SHELF UNIT
I also incorporated the Vesken Shelf Unit to store my handbag fabrics and supplies. What I like about this shelf unit is that it is tall and does not take up much space.
Neatly folding and organizing my fabrics is another "to do job in progress". It's a slow process but it is getting done.
Pegboards & Accessories
Let me just say that the IKEA Pegboard System was essential to organizing my sewing room. There are so many accessories that can help organize and store your sewing supplies.
Before my son moved out, I had a sewing space. I did not have a lot of wall space so I had to pack my sewing supplies in containers and store them on the bookshelves. Because of this, I could not see what I had unless I went digging, trying to find what I needed, which was time consuming. That led to me purchasing items that I already had.
Now, with the IKEA Pegboard System, I have created an open concept where I can see all of my sewing notions making it easier to organize and convenient for me to see and reach.
